K12 Watchdog is an independent Canada-wide parent resource. These standards explain how we source information, correct errors, and keep our independence. They are a commitment to readers — not a legal warranty.
Independence
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any school board, ministry, union, or political party. Local hubs (such as the Durham example) remain clearly labelled as regional resources under the same independent brand.
Sourcing
- Prefer primary sources: board policies, ministry pages, school notices, and published meeting packages.
- Use process framing when we are not sure of a precise statute number — we would rather omit a citation than invent one.
- Label Ontario-specific ministry policy memoranda (PPM) as Ontario-only when mentioned.
- Date briefings and note “Last updated” so readers can judge freshness.
Tone
Calm, practical, and empowering. We write for parents who want clarity and a fair hearing — not conspiracy framing, partisan slogans, or harassment of staff. Disagreement with a policy is fine; fabricating facts is not.
What we are not
- Not legal advice — consult a qualified professional for formal disputes.
- Not a board helpdesk — always verify with official contacts.
- Not a place to publish student personal information.
Corrections
If something is wrong, incomplete, or unfair, see how to request a correction. We aim to fix factual errors promptly and note significant updates on the affected page when practical.
Privacy-light
The main hub is static. Theme preference and the optional evidence locker use browser localStorage only. External regional hubs may have their own practices.
